SABA – A special retirement ceremony for two civil servants of the Public Entity Saba, Mrs. Yvonne Hassell-Simmons and Mr. Joseph Hassell, was held on Thursday, September 26. Family and colleagues got together in the Court room at the administration building to wish Mrs. Hassell-Simmons and Mr. Hassell a happy retirement. Island Governor Jonathan addressed the couple.

He thanked the couple for their valuable services to the government and to the people of Saba, and presented each of them with a gift. Mrs. Hassell-Simmons (64) worked for government for 17 years. She started working for government on March 1, 2002 as a school bus driver until her retirement date on August 20, 2019. Mr. Hassell (65), mostly called “Joe,” has a long career at government. He started to work at the government on January 3, 1975 until retirement date on August 14, 2017. However, he stayed on for two more years to work.

Mr. Hassell started as school bus driver in 2011, a job that he held until he until he went on retirement on August 14, 2019. Throughout the years, he worked in different departments, including the Fire Department. He also worked as a taxi dispatcher at the airport and harbor, and as traffic controller. Mrs. Hassell shortly addressed the gathering. She thanked government for everything. “Joe and me were there for all to help with the children. We were very satisfied with our job.” After that, the guests toasted to the couple’s retirement and the start of a new chapter in their lives with a non-alcoholic sparkling wine.
